I was in the store the other day, and a young man bought his first guitar. He was excited to learn, and asked me what where the best tabs to begin with. This is a common question, so I decided to make a post about it. Most people imagine they can download a tab to there favorite song, and after a few minutes they will be shredding it like Van Halen in a few minutes. I mean, in a perfect world, where everybody can pick out notes by ear, and where Pink Floyd are still together, this would be possible. But the world is a cruel place, and life is tough, so we have to revert to playing easier songs to get the hang of this new instrument.
So in order to pick up the guitar, and shred Jimi Hendrix licks with our tounge, we have to climb the ladder of learning, and thats why you are here!
Lets discuss the difference between "easy guitar" (chord tab), and "tabs". First off, easy guitar tabs usually have the lyrics written in verses, and above the lyrics will be a chord. These are the chords you should strum, and ussually will change chords at a certian lyric in the song. Now, in the world of tabs, and easy guitar, it is important that you know at least the beat of the song. Most internet (free tabs) dont have any sort of timing to follow, and depend on your knowledge of the song to help you learn. We will start with a list of 'easy guitar' tabs for you to follow, to get the hang of chord changes, and the overall feel of reading tab type music.
First one to start with is a classic by Bob Dylan, covered by many. 'Knocking on Heaven's Door' is a great song to start with, it has a simple beat, with a 3 chord progression. If you know the G,C and D chords, you are set.<p>
Knocking on Heaven's Door, Bob Dylan, Easy guitar
Coming in second is a great song to pick up with limited finger movement, and good pick tech. Johnny Cash's 'Hurt' is a cover originally written by Trent Reznor and performed by the alt metal group Nine Inch Nails. Johnny's version is def. better on an acoustic guitar, and has a slower pace which makes it perfect for learning. Remeber, drag the pick down with your strum, emphasising the A and D strings.

Another great beginner tab is a familiar song by The Eagles. 'Hotel California' introduces some bar chords to the mix. Dont give up just because the chords are challanging, there is a reason why this tab is on this list. Its a great one to learn those bar chords with!
Hotel California, The Eagles, Easy guitar
This song is a great one for learning a regae style struff with. 'Badfish' by Sublime, is a great acoustic song, with a slow beat, and easy to match vocals. This is a must learn for you camp fire hippys.
Badfish, Sublime, Easy guitar
The next one is a classic by The Who. Behind Blue Eyes. Many people think that Limp Bizkit is responsible for this song, which the truth is he did a terrible remake of it. This tab will cover either version, it is a little more challenging requiring some minor chords, and sustained chords. This tab will help you relize how much it can add to a song just by lifting one finger off of your chord, than hammering it back on.

Good luck! And great job for completing this lesson!
